I talk with young adults looking back on their own paths, parents looking back on what they worried about, and educators who have watched hundreds of students make the transition.

A Forthcoming Book

I'm writing a book about the years when children are old enough to begin making consequential choices for themselves—and parents are still close enough to make those choices for them.

College is part of the story, but the larger question is what happens to a family when responsibility begins to change hands: what parents hold onto, what they give back, and how young people become adults while everyone is still figuring out what belongs to whom.

It's a book about the long middle between raising a child and knowing an adult, and all the rewiring that has to happen along the way.
